Three ship models from the Portuguese model maker
Carlos Montalvão are already on display at the National Museum of Oman
Three
scaled-down models of historical ships from the XV century (a Chinese junk, a Portuguese nau and a Portuguese caravel) donated
by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Lisboa – Portugal) are already on display at the
National Museum of Oman.
The models are
meticulously craft at scale 1/30 by Portuguese expert ship model maker Carlos
Montalvão and it took him around a year of full time work to achieve each
model.
In November
2014 Carlos Montalvão and Rui Xavier, from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, were in
Muscat to make the basic adjustments in the models. See Oman Tribune article of November 27, 2014 and Oman Daily issue from 24 November 2014.
In early
September 2015 Carlos has returned to the National Museum to ensure the final
adjustments in the models and put them in the Museum show cases.
There are
some photos of the work being done with the help of National’s Museum staff: Nada
Alshekaili, Rasha Alfahadi and Christine
Pariselle.
